The inexpensive jewelry cleaner at Wal-Mart in the red bottle seems to work bests on all costume jewlery. With everyday use, the spiral knot may loosen over time. To keep the spiral knot tight, pull on the ends without the knots to tighten it again.
If you would like less of the cord to dangle after it is tightened, all you have to do is tie another knot closer to the bracelet and snip off the excess. Just be careful that you don't make it so small that you can't fit it over your wrist to take it off and on.
